Are you looking for a good book to read this vacation season?
If you visit your public library, you'll probably find a list of summer reading suggestions that include everything from the latest bestsellers to the next installation in the mystery series you've been reading. But how do librarians decide which books to include on their lists? While we have journals like Publishers' Weekly and Library Journal, which the general public doesn't usually access, we also use tools like Amazon.com and The New York Times Book Review.
Also, it's the time of year that everyone is creating summer reading lists, newspapers included. USA Today has created a "Summer Books Calendar" (http://www.usatoday.com/life/books/news/2009-summer-books-calendar.htm), which includes well over 100 book suggestions. Or maybe you've been meaning to get around to that series your mother suggested months ago. Visit Los Angeles Public Library's Series & Sequels database (http://www.lapl.org/resources/indexes/sequels.html)for lists of series titles. Finding the next great book is just at your fingertips.
Happy reading!
